1999 318 flooding out
My 1999 ram 1500 318 lost power and quit the other day. Its got great spark. The timing is good NO engine light. All injectors ohm test good but I can floor the gas pedal and sometimes it will start and run very bad for 15 seconds. I can unplug the fuel pump relay and the truck will run on the gas in the cylinders until it runs out and quits. So the engine is flooding bad. I tested all the sensors and Im getting 5 volts and the ohms are good. I havnot checked the cat yet but when it does run bad the tail pipe has rich gas exhaust comming out of it, so I figured it was not pluged. But im not sure. my fuel pump when I turn the key on pumps up and shuts off but can it be not shutting off while im trying to start it and flooding out the engine?? thanks much
I took out the o2 sensor and it ran GREAT. Took the saw zaw and cut off the cat and WOW a perfect running mean sounding truck. Went to advance auto got a new cat, cut off the old manafold bolts, bolted on the new cat and the world is perfect.... I have been 3 days YOU saved me, Thanks sooooo much
i second that...there should be no reason for the cat to fail, unless something is contaminating it...and with our trucks, EVERYONE will have the plenum blow out...this is allowing oil into intake manifold, and into the exhaust pipes.
Pull the throttle body, and have a look. If you see pooled oil in there, you need the plenum gasket.

For the plenum, go with the hughes plate, and their intake gasket set. About 140 for all, including shipping. It comes with new intake manifold bolts, as you can NOT re-use them.
I also got a felpro lower intake gasket, as I didn't care for the steel one that came with the hughes kit.
