I bought a new sending unit as well when I did my oil pump.... Old one: 1 1/16th... new one.... metric.... didn't have a socket that fit. (some of my tools grew legs, and ran away......) So, put the old one back in..... No way I could get at it with a wrench. It is just not fun.

So, swapping the sending unit just might be an exercise. Of course, installing the mechanical gauge isn't precisely a snap either..... If the sending unit swap works though...... end of problem. If the gauge still plays funny.... then, you get into "Is it the dash gauge, or do I REALLY have zero oil pressure......." Yeah, these problems can be fun.

A special deep socket is required for the sending unit. A universal one doesn't work. Lisle and K-D both make one. I'll give the #'s when I go down to the garage in the morning.
