Whats up with the oil pressure?
so get this, i did the plenum fix and torqued everything perfectly, and changed the oil and filter plus some other things, but now when the engine hits idle sometimes at stop lights and such, the oil pressure dash gauge will drop to oil but as soon as you tap the gas it jumps right back up. only does it when the engine is warm also, so best thing i could come up with is, i did put full sythetic oil in it, and i dont think it likes the oil, needs some regular little more heavy/thicker such in order to be happy? am i wrong? thanks guys
Other than that, happy to report i just got 12 mpg in the city on my first tank of gas since plenum. Wonder what all highway would be...

I'm not saying that this is your problem but when this happened to mine it was because the bearings were bad. you may want to try an oil sample or drop the oil pan and see if you have any metal shavings, or for oil pick up problems.
Seems to be a rash of oil pressure problems of late...... do these things travel in the water??
I would pick up on a mechanical gauge, screw that in there, and see what the oil pressure is REALLY doing. If it does indeed drop to zero at idle.... well, gonna need to address that. If the gauge tells you nice things, just replace the sending unit.
If you DO need to drop the pan though..... changing the oil pump is actually LESS of a job than doing the plenum fix. Drop the starter, the two engine to trans braces, two hundred bolts to get the pan down, and then it comes right out. (ok, maybe 200 is a bit of an exaggeration..... sure seemed that way though.) Two bolts for the oil pump, (watch out for the oil that comes out when you take it off.) then, just replace what you have to.
Stock oil pump is only 26 bucks here, 49 for the high volume. (the one I put in when my oil pressure got stupid after doing the plenum......) Gasket is 25 or so, then oil, and filter.... I don't bother with synthetic. If you are feeling really froggy, change the rear main seal as well. Just two more bolts. (okay, maybe four, if you have to loosen up the next cap up as well....) You are going to be RIGHT THERE after all.
Only special tools needed is a torque wrench. And maybe an OPS socket.
Congrats on getting the plenum done.
