Motor is running but only shifts into Drive?
So after a few days of trial and error my motor runs and sounds great. I fired it up about an hours ago then had to finish tuning and installing all parts.
But i went to back it out of the drive and it doesnt want to go into reverse, the shifter moves extremely smooth like never before, so im not sure what it is.
When i try to go to reverse it doesnt lock in and it goes to the N and it locks in as Drive.
If i remeber right someone posted awile back about adjusting the shift linkage but i cant seem to find the post and im not sure if adjusting it fixes it or not.
Anyone got any info?

Did you do anything with/to the shift linkage? or the trans?? If you manually shift the trans by crawling under the truck..... (have a friend that you trust help....) will it hit reverse?
when i installed the motor i forgot the crankshaft position sensor which id on the back of the block. So i unbolted the trans and moved it back about a half inch then put it back. Didnt think it would harm anything but i guess it kinda did eh...
That shouldn't have hurt anything....... Odd.
Crawl under the truck, and have a look at all the linkage parts. Wonder if something didn't just slip.... or come loose.
Here's the adjustment procedure:
(1) Shift transmission into PARK.
(2) Raise and support vehicle.
(3) Loosen lock bolt in front shift rod adjusting
swivel (Fig. 230).
(4) Ensure that the shift rod slides freely in the
swivel. Lube rod and swivel as necessary.
(5) Move transmission shift lever fully rearward to
the Park detent.
(6) Center adjusting swivel on shift rod.
(7) Tighten swivel lock bolt to 10 N·m (90 in. lbs.).
(8) Lower vehicle and verify proper adjustment
Adjustment is performed on the rod coming down from the lever on the steering column. (under the hood) There is a nice pic in the 01 service manual. (which you can download from the faq section here.)
They also not that the grommets on the various linkages are NOT re-usable.... if you take them off, you are supposed to replace them...... Seems to be a dodge thing with the non-reusable parts........
