I've heard of more then a few 2nd genners with 2wd rigs being able to take there pan out without lifting there motor. They just remove there inspection plate and Y pipe and that's just enough room to pop right out...with a little "convincing".

Have you done your plenum yet? Are you using an aftermarket PCV valve? Did you replace the rear main seal? Did you look at the back of the flexplate while you had the pan out?

My truck would suck down three quarts of oil a WEEK. And it doesn't get driven that much, usually less than 100 miles a week....... Plenum was part of it, PCV valve was the rest. Even after fixing the plenum, it STILL sucked oil, just not quite as bad. (and smoked like a new england fog was rolling in.....) Got a PCV valve from the dealer, no more oil consumption.

Ooops. You may get to dive in there again then. I would first make sure that the oil isn't simply running down from higher up, and then dripping off from the lowest point....

I thought my rear main was leaking and making spots in my driveway....upon pulling the pan i found out it was the pan gasket leaking and the rear main was fine . Bolted it back up and it's been fine .
