Default Cruise Quit

Hi all!

I had my 98.5 stored for 8 months while I went to Iraq. Just got back yesterday and picked up the truck. The cruise control worked when I parked it, but now it will turn on, but won't set. I am not sure where to start troubleshooting this.

Thanks for any help!

Bill

Mess with the cable on the throttle body. Its directly next to the throttle cable. Maybe it needs oil or something could be sticking.

First off....Thank you for your service.

Sounds like you may have a cracked or split vac hose going to the servo. There should be a rubber elbow on each end of the plastic line the leads to it. Check the rubber connectors for cracks and splits and also the plastic line. Good luck!

Since the cruise light comes on then I assume that it isn't an electrical issue but instead a vacuum issue.

You have a hard plastic vacuum line that runs from the passenger side of the intake manifold to the cruise control servo under the battery.
Check that line for cracks/breaks.
Check the servo for cracks and evidence of battery acid eating a hole in it. An inspection mirror and a flashlight will help with this unless you want to take the servo off to inspect it. It is only a couple of bolts to take it off so it isn't hard to take off if you want to go that route.

You are welcome!

I checked the cable for the cruise at the throttle body. It seemed to be free and not stuck. I will check the servo, it is under the battery if I am not mistaken?? I did see some evidence of mice in the engine compartment. No telling what those little buggers had for a snack!

Yes it is directly under the battery tray.
A few guys have had their batteries leak out and the acid ate holes in the plastic on the servo, giving them a vacuum leak and no cruise control.

I found the trouble. A vacuum line was disconnected at the firewall somehow. Thanks for all the help.

Good deal. It's nice when it's a simple fix.
Before I found this forum I replaced the servo to fix my no cruise issue but I believe it was actually bad because that fixed it.

Excellent! The last thing a soldier needs after spending 8 months in Iraq is a cruise control that doesn't work. Welcome home!
