o2 sensors/cracks on brake rotors
I have about 130xxx on the truck i switched tires out and noticed i have small cracks on the rotors, heat cracks? I have the EBC 7000 green stuff pads with more than half wear left ,could i slap rotors on it and call it good or should i replace the pads also?, just 100+ for the pads , also which calipers are recomended reman or new? And i know to go with NTK o2 sensors and not bosch but i have cali emissions so 4 o2 sensors and thier original never been changed, no probs but figured maybe a few more mpgs if i replace them?
if you can hold out for a week or so on the o2's, I'll let you know about the economy.. I too have cali, and I just swapped upwind o2's with NTK's.
as far as the rotors, I'm thinking unregistered user is the man to ask.. If it were me I'd swap the things out- brakes aren't something I'd mess around with... I'd reuse those pads though if they have that much life left in them.. I'd scour the surface of them as flat as I could and slap 'em back on.. Unreg will have better insight on this than I would though..

I haven't researched it enough to speak on it yet, but I do know this about the cali sensors:
the upwinds are different than the 49 state sensors- but not that much from what I'm gathering.. the DOWNWINDs, though, are different to a much larger degree.. They monitor differently... My reasoning is that the upwinds (above the pre-cats) trim the engine just like the 49 state does, but I don't know exactly what the downwinds do that is different- I know that I don't trip any codes with the aging ones, so I leave them alone..

when you went to the parts store to get them did they have a choice of cali or non cali did you get the cali ones ? i firgure if its not broke dont ef with it but they say 50 to 70xxx miles to change them, or they make the engine lean/rich out = unburnt fuel crappier milage?
well, I tried my durndest to buy local.. When I suggested I needed Cali (which was because of a thread I read here of the issues a dude had trying to interchange them) I got a blank stare at best, or a frightened look like I was about to push a social agenda on them..
I ordered from here... got them pretty quick.. the stealership wanted $90ea, and the one parts store I could order them through wanted $70ea...

I'm curious to know why those rotors failed. Groups of hairline cracks indicate either excessive heat or Chinese rotors. Either way, toss 'em and put something US made on. Don't waste your money on cross-drilled rotors. They look all kinds of high zoot, but on highway vehicles they don't last as long as plain jane rotors.
It's best to replace the pads along with the rotors so they'll bed properly, but reusing the old ones probably won't hurt as long as they're not scored. If it were mine to do, I'd just replace them so I don't have to go back in quite so soon.

aftercat 02s read cat performance .if the cat isnt burning efficiently or at the minimum level programmed in the ecm then you get a cat efficiency code which can also be caused by an exhaust leak at the cat.they dont really give any performance or mileage improvement . fuel metering is controlled by the 1(2) precat o2s .
