Default Tranny problems Advise

2000 ram 1500 4x4 5,9 The trans shifts ok but when it gets hot it doesn't want to go from a stop. Once it gets going it seems ok. Could it be just the torque converter or a new tranny. Thank You.

popping any codes?

It sounds like a governor pressure sensor, which often prevents the tranny from dropping to first gear- sometimes second as well..

next time it does it, pull your shifter all the way down to first and see if that gets it rollin better..

if that is what it is, it's an easy fix.. you can search it and find the procedures.

I just ran the scanner and came up with 3 codes P0031. P1757 and P1495 Which I know what that is. Are you talking about the second code

Yep, and that would be a sure indication that the solenoid, and the sensor, should be replaced.

Is that something I can do myself or do I have to take it in. It seems like all 3 codes are sencor or selinoids. This was all after removing all codes and going on trip about 350 miles

You have to drop the pan, which sucks if you don't have a drain plug(get one). But other than that, it is easy to replace those two items.

Yep, just gotta drop the trans pan, and they should be right there. Not too bad of a job, just messy. Get NEW parts, not Remans.

p0031 is for bank 1 sensor 1 OS sensor heater circuit. Might have a bad O2 sensor there.....

P1495 is leak detection pump solenoid... might have a short there somewhere. (so glad I don't have that particular little piece of equipment...... )

you can get a hand pump and poke it down the fill tube to remove a good bit of the fluid- this helps if you want to reuse it too.. it's a messy job no matter how you slice it though.. the parts themselves are easy to swap.. get them from a dealer though- I've heard stories about these aftermarket parts going bad fast..

if'n it were me, I'd take the opportunity to swap filters, fluid, gasket, torque the bands, and install that drain plug.. All in all, it shouldn't take you more than an hour to do it.. It's easy, but messy. buy some cat litter..

oh, and whilst you're driving to the dealership to get the parts, use your shifter as if you were driving a straight/manual tranny.. attempting to start in second (or third) gear is NOT good for your tranny.. doing it excessively will wreck it.
