Can my 1500 handle a 8ft plow?
So the past 2 years I've thought about getting a plow for my truck. Know I decided its time but my outside wheel to outside wheel is 6ft 8in. I was looking at the western HTS a 7 half foot plow at full angle measures 6ft 8. The 8ft at full angle measured 6ft 11. I wouldn't ask but to get that 3in I have to give up 250 LBS. I've got the leveling kit in front and my truck is a 97 and it has the 5.9 in it. I hope to plow residential and some commercial if i can get them. What you think?
P.S. the HTS weighs 412 LBS and the 8 ft weighs 668 LBS

Your front axle is going to suffer big time. BJ's, wheel bearing hubs, etc... A 1500 is really not up to the task of commercial plowing. If you are doing your own driveway and a couple others, you can get away with it. But still, plan on replacing some parts.
i have an 8' hd fisher plow on my 1500. when i first bought it i had the stock front coil springs and it handled the plow just fine. i drove from arlington, mass to rochester, nh with it hanging off the front of my truck, and its about a hour or so long drive. i have since upgraded to diesel coils, but if you feel comfortable with an 8' plow id say do it. i dont regret it one bit!
The front ends on the 1500s aren't bullet proof so be aware that the harder you are on it the more you will pay. The main thing is to be smooth, eficient and don't get in a hurry. The more obstructions, bumps , manholes, potholes, etc that you can avoid or go over slower and smoother the less it will cost you in the long run. Every time you feel a thump when plowing is that much closer to breakage. Good Luck.

well to answer the question more in full. we just got a good foot of snow here on monday, and i plowed 6 good sized driveways with my truck, and she did just fine! the truck had no problem whatsoever pushing one bit of snow, and i was pushin 2+ foot deep snow drifts. truck didnt lug or stall, however i almost got stuck once because i pushed a bit too far into a ditch, but i got out...
Biggest issue I have with my 7.5 is running over snow going up drives that aint straight. I have to back drag them when i'm doing. And man hole cover and curbs really wake you up. Ask me how I know I hit a few.
I have a Arctic 8' plow on my 98 Ram 1500.
I used HD from spring ( 1770lbs load per spring ), that 1,000 lbs more per spring over stock ( 2,000 lbs total ).
I have a lift kit on my truck also.
Ranch 3" spacer block lift, 2" body lift, and the HD front springs raised it another 1 1/2" in the front along with 35" tires.
The spring will work on a stock 1500.
They will give you a lot more capacity and will raise the front about 1 1/2".
I only do my own and my families driveways.
I run in 4 low, come to complete stops before switching gears, and go slow and easy.
