Default 1997 Ram with 97k miles, how many more can I get

This was my (now deceased) Fathers truck, and for a 14 year old vehicle is in remakably good shape. The paint has some chips here and there, there is a spot where the clear coat has chipped, and some rust is just now starting to develop on the wheel wells, but it is otherwise fairly clean and is running strong (he kept up with ALL of the maintenance intervals).

The engine sounds great and does not sound like it has any issues.
Just curious how many more miles I can expect to get out of this.

Take care of it, and it will run forever. We have members with well over 200,000 miles on these trucks. Sorry 'bout your dad.

Welcome to DF.

welcome to df.
200-300k or more with regular maintenance.
the trans is the weakest point. service regularly w/ATF+4 only and no additives.

sorry to hear of your loss....

but i have almost 205K on my 360, and she still runs excellent....granted ive replaced transfer case, and tranny was rebuilt, but other than that, just routine maintenance, and some other goodies and she runs great

there was a member here "halfamil" he had a ram and it had 450K on the original motor.....he always used supertech oil from wal-mart, and it lasted that long....so its just on how you take care of it.

But i can tell you one thing.....you will fall in love with the truck....i did with mine

and yes tranny is a weak point, but i guarentee having a ram is much better than a chebby or fraud (chevy and ford lol)

You know, its funny. From 2006 until two months ago the truck pretty much sat. I wouldnt say it sat neglected, as I made it a point to drive it 40-60 miles once a month, but still it didnt get the attention it deserved. Remaining family members kept saying I should just sell it, but the ~3k I would have gotten from the sale of that truck did not seem worth losing access to a full size pickup that had a clean title and that I knew the history of.

Than two months ago my 2003 4runner died, I ended up getting 2011 trail edition 4runner, but I hated the thought of putting a ton of miles on my new ride by commuting to work so I started driving the Dodge 2 or 3 days a week, and I have to admit I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dig this truck.

As a matter of fact I ended up liking it so much I gave it several thorough details inside and out to make up the years of it not being washed, and today will pick up a new fiberglass cap for it to replace the one that was on it (clear coat was gone, window seals were shot, and it was cracking).

Hopefully if I keep up with the maintenance I will get at least another 50k out of it without dropping big bucks on it.
