About a month ago, my roommate was driving his '97 Ram 2500 on the freeway when his hood flew open. It was quite scary for him to safely get off to the side. He then had to stand and jump on the hood to get it reclosed. Now it is a pain to open/close.

I read somewhere that there was a recall notice many years ago for a faulty hood latch on the 1997 Ram. Is this something that a dealer will fix for him? I am assuming there is a chance it could fly open again?

 

Call the nearest dodge dealer, (or, go visit them...) give them the vin, and they will be able to tell you if there are any recalls.

Hood latch recall was on the secondary hood latch.

 

Recalls are forever.

 

Thanks. I will add that to roommate's to do list. From what I read, it would cover his ram, as it was sold & registered in one of the listed states at the time of the recall in 2001. I just don't know how recalls work and if you can get it addressed by dealer 9 years later.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the dealer not doing it.
Hell, my truck has an outstanding recall for the trailer hitch...should be able to get what you need to get done.
