I guess it really depends on what your looking for? Is your truck a show truck, play truck or a work truck?

I work mine and had a thought of making a bumper out of 2 pieces of steel or aluminum channel to make a box. I use aluminum ramps to get riding mowers and other things in the bed and thought it would be great to have a place to store the ramps when they are not in use.

Whatever you build, make sure its weaker than what you are attaching it to. You want to crush your bumper in an accident, not your frame. 1.75 DOM .120 is ideal material for that reason.

This is the bumper on the Ram I picked up for my build:

DOM is the ****. I've lifted the entire front of the truck from the center of that bumper, with a hoist. It barely flexed.
