Default searched but nothing, transmission help

Hey guys,

My truck is a 97 extended cab 4x4 with the 360.

Truck has always ran excellent, never a minutes worth of trouble with it.

I have a work truck, but drive the dodge in the evenings and on weekends.

Tonight the wife and i went to eat dinner at my families house. Drove over fine just like normal. 2 hours later went to leave, everything is fine. Turn off to the main road and noticed my rpms jump up. I immediately stopped. Turned off on a dirt road. I could hear a weird noise coming from somewhere up under the truck. Put the truck in park and turned it off. Turned it back on and put it in D and it acted like it wanted to go but not very good. put back in park and it would not do anything but rev up. It will not do anything in any gear(r,d,3,2,1).

I can shut it off for a few minutes and put it in park or reverse and it will go, but after that first small burst it will just rev up.

What does this sound like? Is it done for? check valve? filter stopped up?

Any and all help is appreciated.

It gave no warning.

i would bring it to a trans shop to get a better diagnosis but it sounds like the gov press sensor. how many miles are on the truck? ever done a tranny service? the sensor isnt hard to change you just drop the tranny pan, pull the filter and its up in the valve body

Did you check the fluid in neutral and after everything is warmed up, or in park? If its full in park, its actually low. Park doesn't give you a good reading, it'll always read higher in park.

Screw a pressure gauge into one of the ports provided, and see what pressures look like....

They are actually a pretty common failure. The screens get plugged up, and things stop working.

Check valve won't cause your trans to not work, at least, not immediately..... it WILL cause it to get hot though, which will munch it up in fairly short order.
