I don't know why, but my 2001 does something WEIRD:

1. When I have it on the "head and feet" setting just past the AC ****, the COMPRESSOR RUNS.
2. When I set it to JUST HEAD or JUST FEET, the compressor does not run.

I know that the doges had the compressor running during defrost settings, but i think they set it to the hnands and feet setting so the compressor will get some exercise in the winter months.

The air is not as hot when on that setting.

HOWEVER< these problems could be because of a cracked vac line. When i did my plenum and had the battery unhooked for a LONG TIME, I had the AC **** on and the temp set to cold. Then when i was supposed to run the heater for the coolant system descaler, the air was still cold (I switched it to heat and the hottest temp before hooking up the battery).

So maybe i zeroed the system to AC because the system shut down on AC and was restarted on the heat setting.

I unhooked the battery and set everything to off. Then I didn;t have that problem again.

G&L,

Unplug your AC compressor. behind the compressor is a black plastic connector. if you unplug that, it will not run.

Then see if you get warmer air.

ALSO, you can try MAX AC. Since the compressor is not running, you can cycle the air IN THE CAB and it will heat up more quickly and will be hotter. I did that, and it worked.

couple strange ideas for you guys... the other night i set the controls to face vent, pluged all the vents except for one, and blew back through that vent with a leaf blower, while a buddie moved the temp **** back and forth a few times, then i noticed a bit of air flow difference between max a/c and face vent (lower on face vent) so for now i stuck a piece of wood molding in the recirculation vent to keep it from fully closing while allowing max flow, quite a bit of difference, maby it had external core plugging or something stuck in the temp blend door, IDK but i know finally have heat

my a/c pump also runs on every setting, except, face or floor only, and a noticably cooler temp with it running, one of my next mods will ba compressor switch like my dakota has

I've always thought it stupid that dodges don't have a separate button or switch for the ac like some vehicles so that you can run the recirculating air whenever you want without being forced to turn on the ac. Oh well.

I think up until 98, the fan control had two ranges, one for WITH the A/C compressor, and one for without. I rather like that.

I remember that with my 1996. You had to activate the AC.

I guess it wouldn't be that hard to wire in a switch or a push button if a person really wanted it that way.

I'd like to cut HeyYou in half and count the rings. It would probably take a couple of days, but heck, the kids would get a kick out of it!
