I definitely say rubber, with all the trucks I had with carpet I found myself buying huge rubber floor mats to try to cover and "save" the carpet. So in the end I had decent carpet covered with rubber floor mats.

My truck had carpet, but I put Husky Floor Liners to protect the carpetfrom the snow and salt in the winter. They work great. So I think I have the best of both worlds.
