So it's mainly for the sound that you want to make the change? In that case, give a listen to the various cat-backs that can be found on manufacturer's web sites and on youtube, but avoid those with really fat pipes because they'll rob you of low end power. Generally but not universally, louder = more low end power loss/greater top end power gain.
Stick to recognizable name brands -- a lot of the no-name crap sold on eBay will rust through in two years of Missouri weather.

You didn't state what your goals are, only that you want good sound and performance. In my life, good sound means not exceptionally loud and good performance means power coming in right off idle and extending into the mid-range, but without gimping the top end.
For my needs, I'm very pleased with the Magnaflow direct fit cat and Gibson Swept-Side Single. I'll be adding Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers soon -- I had a set on a similar engine and loved 'em. With this setup I won't make the peak horsepower numbers that others might, but the additional power comes in at the lower RPM's where I want it.
If you're wanting to rattle windows or chase greater peak horsepower numbers (at the cost of bottom end power) then a setup such as mine would disappoint you. The Magnaflow cat would still be a very good choice, but you'd want something different in front of and behind it.

I had a Series 40 Flowmaster but swapped it for the Series 10. With the California set up, the Series 40 was very quiet. They market the Series 10 as "not recommended for street use" but it sounds great on my truck. It's not too loud. It's "loud-ish" with a convincing rumble.
