On one of the webs of the central pumpkin, (bracing for where the axle tube goes in....) on the front, should be stamped 44 or 60...... Not stamped real deep though, so, may or may not be legible.

Another possible way to tell is the diameter of the diff cover. If it is around 12", D60, 11 or so, D44.

Five or eight lug axle??

I just replaced that sat morning in my 96 ram 1500 with a dana 44. I ran into the same trouble, couldn't find the replcement bearing anywhere. even the dealer was stumped. The parts girl at the dealer called a few other dealers and nothin. She talked to a tech in the shop and he told me the needle bearing was replaced with a plastic type bushing. The part number of the bushing I got is 4137740AB. it was $21.15. Seems pretty ****ty to replace a needle bearing with a plastic bushing.

Do you have old bearing out?
On the side of it there will be a part number.
Its on the cage holding all the rollers/needles - usually very small font.
Use this part number to get replacement.
For Dana 44 - USA Standard Gear p/n: USA18052 - 1.625" ID, 0.5" Wide

Given the age of this thread, I should hope he has this fixed years ago......
