Default How to tell if an SCT tuner is locked or unlocked

I just bought an used SCT tuner and I'm trying to figure out how to tell if it's Locked or Unlocked (VIN). Pretty straight forward, I hope. Thanks again fellas.

I went threw all of the on screen menu and it tells me: Device status: stock Changes left 0" Then it gives me a VIN #. I know I'll have to send it to SCT to reset it (at the very least) I just want to know if I'm gonna have to pay $65 or $150. It never states if it's locked or unlocked.

if it gives you a vin #, the PO never set the his vehicle back to stock. $150

where'd you find it? how much?

I got it from lblair04 for $50. He assured me that it wasn't vin locked. So much for that. Are you sure about that? It says that it's set back to stock, however, it also gives that VIN #.

no... not SURE is "set back to stock" an option for the tuner to set the truck back to stock, or is it merely stating that the tuner was "set back to stock"? in which case that doesnt make a whole lot of sense...

this is where I ask which way is up, because I am confused. I'm guessing the tuner is set back to stock because it says "devices status Stock" and I can only assume the "device" it's talking about is the tuner itself. I guess I better call SCT, unless someone else got an answer for me. Thanks for responding so quickly Matty.

no problem, yea SCT is your best bet. you'll have to call them anyway to get a RMA, pay, and get an adress

If its set back to stock, it should be unlocked. The VIN is just the VIN number of the last vehicle it was on. Even when my Superchips 3815 was unlocked, it still listed the VIN of the last vehicle it was used to program.

Sounds good. So just to be sure, it wouldn't say on the screen if it's locked or unlocked, correct?
