Default 4.10's and a locker

Well my parents owe me 4.10 gears for christmas, and well when my dad gets back from vacation we are ordering them.....so I need to start getting my sh^t together so its all ready to be bought.

Was thinking richmond EXcel gears, there cheap and I still have stock drivetrain so I shouldn't be able to break these, then I need a install kit....any recommendations.

Since I'm doing all this work, I figured that I really should take out the limited sh^t that's in the truck, 175k on it and I dont think it will hold together much longer, so I figured throw in a detroit locker.

But I was helping a friend install a powertrax locker and gears in a rear end for his tahoe. And well a powertrax for my truck is only $410 and it replaces the spider gears basically, only problem is I will need a open carrier

So has anyone used a Powertrax, how did you like it, how long you had it, anything you have to say about it,

PS. Any cheap places to get parts from, experience you want to pass on, DIY installs for the gears(I do everything to my truck and have dealt with a couple chevy rear-ends, so how much harder can it be), or just some plain ole bs is welcome

There should be a No-Slip for the LS carrier too.

If you're swapping gears, might as well pony up for a Detroit and do it then anyways.

Well I looked around on the internet and all I found said that you needed an open carrier, so Ill keep looking if I cant find anything about a LS carrier might give them a call

And yeah that was the original plan, but thats close to $250 cheaper.....that could be my door speakers, I know its old hearing it but college kid budgets aren't to big might save a little where I can, I don't see much going wrong with the powertrax just really want to make sure it works, its simple mechanics but sometimes that don't always work

complete offroad.com is where I got most all of my stuff. prices seemed real good and website was soo easy to use. I know you are looking at the locker but there is also the option of rebuilding the trac lok for like $70.00. I understand you can actually make them more aggressive by adding an extra friction (?) from your worn clutch pack in with the new.

The model for the LS carrier is even more money, the Detroit is starting to look more appealing.
