if you replaced a pre-cat, my man I feel for you.. I priced those things, and holy moses!!! they are NOT cheap.. they are so expensive, in fact, that I would honestly get them from a JY before buying new.. I could buy a new short block for the cost of those from OEM.. No kidding..

No sir. Later models had 2 cats and 2 pre and post O2 sensors.

They run about $50 for the pre and post. Not bad at all. I'd never buy any O2 sensor or sensor for that matter for the bone yard. Some things you just gotta suck it up and By the real to so as to remove that problem from the equation and move forward. Sad but true...and let me just say, I'm a poorer man because of that!!!

I meant pre-cat themselves.. not the sensor.. I would never buy a used sensor.. that would be silly.. I wouldn't even consider a used catalytic converter in most any other case, but damn- those cali pre-cats are NO joke..

I'm sorry I don't follow. What do you mean by "Pre-cat" The only pre cat anything I have on my rig is a pre cat O2 sensor.

on mine (which is a cali rig), there is a pre-cat- which is just south of the collector flange- it's actually part of the collector flange if you want to split hairs.. It is shaped something like a football, and about 2/3 the size of one.. The upwind o2 sensor screws directly into it... The downwind o2 sensor is just behind it on the drivers side.. the passenger side is the same, but the downwind o2 sensors boss is actually part of the y pipe..

it's because of this I think there is a difference between left and right o2 sensors, as well as the fact they collect data differently than a 49 state engine, though I've yet to identify what the difference actually is.

Damn. That sounds like a huge PITA. I'm glad I have the easier of the california emissions set ups. Mine only consists of one cat and two O2 sensors...that's it. Nothing more nothing less. Prices are another story though. When I bought my cat 3 years ago, it cost me $250. I just checked recently and there going for $500
