ABS and Brake Light

This morning as I was leaving for work my ABS indicator light came on. Its the first time I have ever seen this warning light. I don't really have any symptoms or anything out of the ordinary. Brake fluid level is good. The pedal feels the same. I didn't slide or lock up on my drive to work although it is only about 15 minutes. I haven't had a chance to get the code read yet and I'm going out of town this weekend in my truck. Should I be extremely worried? I don't want to start a run away Dodge conspiracy like the Toyota Prius, which I also own. Any help would be great!

Thanks :icon_headbang:

The sensor on top of the rear end is the most likely culprit.

So you are thinking this one?

I guess I won't have anti-lock brakes until I change the sensor out. How could that sensor possibly change shift points in the tranny? I'll get it checked with a tuner to make sure it is that sensor.

Not like the antilock brakes are worth a hill of beans on these trucks.......

PCM pays attention to a host of sensors when deciding various things..... transmission pressures is one of them. It is possible that the sensor in question could cause you problems of that nature, but, I don't know for sure one way or the other....

I say just change the damn sensor, 10 minutes if that. You can also try this and see what codes you have https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html

And btw, don't use any Duracrap sensors.

Thanks for the help fellas. I'll get the code checked and grab a new sensor. I'm guessing the NAPA brand sensors are pretty good right?

Our trucks only have rear wheel ABS right? I remember putting the ABS Ring back on in the rear when I installed new gears and the locker. I don't remember doing that in the front.

HeyYou Jan 14, 2011 11:19 AM

The trucks that have 4wal have speed sensors at each front tire, as opposed to on the carrier. It was an option.... but, I haven't seen too many that actually have it. (as a matter of fact.... I have yet to see one.....)

Just RWAL on a 97. IIRC it was an option later on.

Thanks again fellas. You have been a big help as usual! :icon_banana:
