Default programmer octane rating

running a superchips programmer on the performance setting, getting ready to fill up and was wondering if the 91 octane rating is really worth the money compared to the 87 or 89? Has anyone tried this already? What is the difference in performance / gas mileage?

My current octane is 87/89 (mid grade) truck seems to run good, hell of a difference with the programmer.

i would use the 91... the $ saved is minimal and the performance (grin factor) is worth the extra couple of bux ($2.60 to be exact if your filling 26 gallons).

I just spent alot of time learning about Superchip. They claim 91 octane is a must in any mode except 87 octane. It can cause pinging. Pringing can cause alot of damage over time.

I don't have the superchips, but i do have the hypertech. Running the higher octane level on mine like you said costs abit more to do but yes the performance level is so much more exciting. Not sure what kind of mileage I am getting using either of the two choices but I do know what it was taking me to drive from where i live in illinios to michigan and they both improved my gas mileage dramatically.

I have a Hypertech PPIII and I run it on the top setting all the time. I use 90 Oct ethenal and I do not get any ping at all. I even pull my 24ft enclosed car trailer on this setting without any problems. Like said before what a wow factor after you program in and change the factory settings.
