5.9l 360 looking for ideas
I have pulled my oe 5.9l 360 out of my truck and put a used one in that has 89,000 on it. I am looking to eather buy a remanufactured or rebuild it woundering if i rebuild it what would be better if it has not been bored should i bore it? What is a good bore to reach for like .001 or .010 or .020. not looking to make a gas sucker like a 408 stroker. a little more power but dont want to lower the mpg more then it is. any ideas Oh and what is a good marster rebuild kit to get.

Rip it apart, mic it out, and see what you got. If the bores are still within spec, (doubt it) you can simply hone it out, and re-use most of your stock parts. If it needs bored, standard oversizes are .030, and .060 oversize. Just go to the step you need to get things back withing spec. If you have to bore, you need new pistons.
If your engine wasn't making any rude noises when you pulled it, most of the rotating assembly can be cleaned up, and reinstalled. Once again, mic it out, and make sure everything is within spec.
Replace the stock heads. Don't bother spending any time/money on them. They were crap from the factory, and you can get better replacements for as little as 270 each. (clearwater cylinder head in florida.) Get your new heads checked before installing them. (cheap insurance)
Since you aren't in a hurry, you can pull apart the old motor, see what its gonna need as far as parts, and machine work, then compare the cost to getting a reman similar to what you would like to build.

boring it out alone will NOT give you any noticeable gains (360 +.030=365). the only reason to bore is if the cylinders are beyond honing to bring them within OEM spec.
there are several paths you can take... 2.02 heads, hot cam, increase compression (mill heads, deck block, flat top pistons), m1 intake or you can add some 1.7s and an SCT and call it a day.... depends on what ur HP goals are
