What is your exhaust set up?
I have my 99 RAM 2500 5.9 v8 currently in the shop because my tye-rod snapped and lost steering AND hit a light pole =( just after rebuilding the front end BUT I used to have big 6 inch stainless stacks with a stock cat and a tractor muffler. It you have never tried it, try putting a tractor muffler on backwards and it sounds pretty good. But after repairing I want to make it true dual and I think I should use a FlowMaster 44 or 40 but not sure. Suggestions? (I'm not agaisnt removing or gutting my cat)
No muffler, gutted cat (actually just about 90% of it, didnt have a long enough prybar to stick in there) dumped about 1' after the cat. It is borders on rediculous in the db range. I've set off car alarms 30' away at higher rpms. There is a slight drone at idle and once od kicks in. Surprisingly quiet at highway speeds.
Once i get access to my grandfathers welder i will be putting my flowmaster back on to even it out. Sounds too raw to me as it is.

I have the direct fit short headers with the single in, dual out super 10 series Flowmaster. Because I have the California (three cat) set up, it's not too loud. It does have a great sound. I'm planning to swap out the OEM cats for higher flow aftermarket cats. From what I understand, had I not the California catalytic converter set up, the series 10 Flowmaster would be pretty freaking loud.
Running a stock setup with an AeroTurbine AT3030 straight-through muffler, dumped right before the axle. VERY deep, but not annoying. Its not just noise, it has a very nice tone to it. Driving, it doesnt drown out everything. Im extremely comfortable with this muffler.
Plan on upgrading to headers, high-flow cat, and 3" pipe someday. Not sure how that will affect sound and performance...

Summit sells the high flow Cali cats your wanting, however they will cost you around $ 250. Not TOO bad. I was able to get mine for $180 because I did a lot of price hunting.
