[I was looking through complete offroad and found there kit for the D44 and chrysler 925. Anyone mess with this? is it all inclusive or would I need other parts as well?]

I've got there 4.56 kit on my truck and i love it. for the front you'll need a new carrier. unless you go with a posi or locker.

I also have a Detroit Locker front and rear, and can say for sure that when I am in two wheel drive all of my front drive is turning up to the cad, but it still drives like a somewhat open diff. As for the handling differences, everybody is right; you will have to relearn how to drive your truck. And yes when you get stuck with dl’s you are stuck and good.

Ok, well it turns both but since 4WD isn't engaged the one that is disconnected, AKA the right front axle, isn't connected to the wheel, thus you don't get wheel lock up or wear on you LSD which lets you steer as if you had an open diff. I have a Detroit TrueTrac and it drives exactly the same up front in 2WD as it did with an Open Diff. It has gears that actuate inside it as opposed to clutch packs like an Auburn LSD. When it is engage its breaking point, point at which it delivers the power to less tractioned wheel, is 3:1. All that said to mean when in 4WD it likes to go straight and not much else.

According to popular theory, when NOT under power, the locker should be unlocked, hence is behaves exactly as an open diff. An LSD on the other hand, 'should'...... try and prevent wheel spin, and grab, thereby turning most of the stuff in the front axle, and the front driveshaft. Right?

With the CAD disconnected, it will drive just like it does with an open diff in front, not matter which you have in there, you are just maybe turning more stuff..... so, gas mileage may suffer a bit.

Totally agree Hey. It will turn everything up to the disconnected transfer case causing less gas mileage but probably very insignificantly unless your commute includes doing a lot of donuts!

EDIT: just to be Captain Obvious here.... Carrier = locker, LSD, or open diff. So if you need a new carrier because of larger gears it makes sense to go ahead and get a much improved traction device aka locker/LSD.
