Default shifting problems

I have a 1997 ram 1500 4x4 sport automatic. Ok my issue is starting off when its in first gear it hits 2k to shift and it wants to jump and change into second and dwnshift into first. when it gets going it shifts perfect and if i shift it manually its fine also. I have replaced the speed output sensor on the tranny and it still does it. The fluid level and color are fine. Do i need to replace the tranducer and governer? or is it something else? any help would be great im tired of shifting gears in my automatic

Governor pressure sensor and solenoid are a good bet.

When was the last time you did a fluid and filter change?

LOLOLOLOL. I HATE it when that happens.

Yeah, drop the pan, and see what you find. These transmissions are notorious for the sensor/solenoid gunking up, and failing.

+2 on the aforementioned items... also, how many miles are on it? might be time for that tranny to have a decent burial.

As with all shifting problems, i'm gonna throw in the tv cable adjustment as a possibility. It affects all shifts, but in my experience 1-2 is the most dramatic (had a fun time with many 4 letter words figuring that out).

I had the same shifting problem, and I found the accumulator spring was broke. I also replaced the solenoid and transducer at the same time though since it seems to fail, and I didn't want to dump 60 bucks of ATF back in and find out the spring wasn't the issue.
