Random Stalling
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Quad cab 204,000 miles. Last night it shut off while driving. No indication it was going to happen. It doesnt sputter or hesitate it shuts right down. Its hard to start but if I let it sit for a few minutes it will start up fine. I have replaced plugs, wires etc. I use 89 octane. It happened back in October then ran fine until last week it did it once started right up and ran. Last night it did it on a bad corner and wouldnt start for a few minutes. Any ideas? Please help. I love my truck but cant take a chance with my son in the truck.

Sounds like the crank sensor is going bad. But before spending money, check the fuel pressure as mentioned above. Try to check it when the truck stalls, also check spark at that time. Check and clean the IAC on back of the TB also.
Edit: you can try this and see if there are any stored codes.https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html

The problem with when it happens is always in the worst possible spot so unfortunately I am trying to get it off the road when that happens. I will start going down the list with your responses. They are all very appreciated as this is very frustrating and last night was very dangerous especially with my son in the truck on a dark icy road. Again thank you.

I was/am hesitant on thinking fuel pump. I always hear it engage before starting and I was under the assumption that if the fuel pump crapped out that would be it and the truck wouldnt start. I had also checked for "stored codes" before and nothing came up. The check engine light doesnt even come on or flash right before it happens. Plus you could put 100 miles on before it randomly does it.

Zman, thanks again. I myself after reading similar problems am thinking Crank Shaft sensor. like I said if a fuel pump goes it goes therefore the damn truck wouldnt start after sitting for a minute or two. I will also check the connections etc. Last nights escapade did me in. Not sure where you are but we got walloped in the northern end with a flash freeze etc. and it was the worst possible spot to happen during my travels. BTW nice dog
