Sorry bout that, didn't mean to get your dander up.

I gave my number to a guy on this very forum once, to talk him thru a problem. He thought that was Carte Blanche to call me whenever he needed help. Luckily, he sold his truck.

you never know if they'll send you a pizza, or steal your daughter away from ya.

Ok so i made it home safely after pulling the axle on the side of the road thank god i happend to have all the tools in the tool box. I will post pics up of the shaft tomorrow and see what you guys have to say. What causes the axle shaft to break right at the u joint? I am thinking failed u joint but i dont know enough about u joints to say if there is any truth in that. I was not abusing the truck at all when this happend just took a trip up to the mountain to ski. Thanks for the help guys

The weak part of the Dana 44 is the u-joints. I've seen where a u-joint will break and the ears of the yokes will beat each other to a pulp and a new stub shaft and axle shaft were in order.

Aren't you the one that had mismatched differential gears? That would put a lot of stress on the u-joints.

Yes i am the one that had the mismatched gears. Well its good to know that could have been the reason of its failure. There is only one junk yard in my area that has a second gen ram 1500 and they want 120 for the axle shaft. Is that a fair price? I know that a new one is upward of 250. So would you guys pay 120 for a used one i have to pull myself?

axle shaft and stub shaft together, that would be a good price.

a new one is $180 here. (inner half only)
http://www.riversidegear.com/categor...oduct-315.html

over $200 at quad4x4. (inner half only)
not listed on advance
over $200 at rockauto. (inner half only)

its running around $150 on ebay. (both halves). so i guess 120 is not too bad.
