Heat works only on the 2 high positions... Why?

before you replace it, remove the old one and inspect it. a friend's dakota burned out on one of the speeds, but there was a sort of bus bar with an alternative connector/resistor. i can't remember exactly what he did, but it was as easy as move a wire and it was good to go.
the resistor is just a variable resistor. on the high speed setting, 12v is connected to a terminal with zero resistance, so the blower motor runs at full speed. for each fan speed, it connects 12v to a different terminal with increasing resistance which results in lower voltage and slower speeds. when a resistor burns out, then that speed quits working.
