Default Home made Steps / Runnin Boards?

Anybody make their own?

I would like to add a step to my drivers side.

1999 4x4.

Its quite a hike to get in and out.

I have a welder. I am thinking maybe 2.5" pipe.

But where would I connect the ends to? I guess I would bolt it to the bottom somewhere?

Thoughts?

Most have brackets that bolt to the body mounts, and then a 'brace' that goes to the body someplace else..... Other, bolt directly to the frame. There are MANY different designs out there in the world... Have a look under your truck, and see what would be easiest for you.

my favorite design would be "military style" its just a slider pipe under you body for protection from rocks and then a loop of chain attached to the pipe.
that way if you do hit something on the trail the chain will just collapse and move and not bend/break off. it also wouldnt cost more than $50 to build
ive never seen it on a street truck, but i always see it on the deuce and 1/2 military trucks! if its a good enough design for them, it good enough for my truck!

I bought my Mopar running boards on craigslist for $35. I see the tube style ones there pretty regularly as well. Might check your area. Just a thought.

I have also been looking for a nerf bar on craigslist in my area. I havent found anything yet however. Anyone know if a 2002 nerf bar will fit a 2001? I see 02's on there all over the place.
