Default Transmission swap

Hey everyone, just did a t-case rebuild and rear main seal, but sure enough a few weeks later my transmission is have trouble up and down shifting, ocassionaly i have to semi shift it with the gas pedal or throw it in nuetral to fix it. About a year ago i found some metal in the trans pan that looked like this ( . at first i thought it was my snap ring but i have put 4,000 miles on it sense and now believe its a spacer in between 2 and 3 or 3 and 4. no more metal has come off though so i ignored it. any ideas on what going on here? and could it just be electrical. the trans is not low on fluid so i know thats not it. If i do need a new transmission is there a different type tranny that will fit that is less notorious for problems?

Nothing stock anyway...... you would need to get pretty custom to put in a different trans.

That said, there ARE things you can do to the trans to beef it up. Or, you can simply replace it with one from one of the aftermarket suppliers. (PATC comes to mind here..) You can get them with meaner parts, that will be basically indestrucible behind your V-8. Torque converters, and O/D units were the weak points. Not to mention governor pressure sensors that don't like WOT, and governor pressure solenoids that like to gum up, and stop working....

The metal you found might be the snap ring out of the O/D unit..... which will end up smoking the trans if left alone.

You might be able to rescue your trans, at least for a while.... by doing a fluid/filter change, adjusting the bands, and cleaning or replacing the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. I would see if you can't get a look at the O/D unit snap ring though.....

There is almost no way a piece of a snap ring could get into the pan from the OD unit. It would have to get through a 1"x1" (if that big) hole and past the valve body. Maybe it is more common than I think but seems really unlikely.

The ( shaped ring, can you get a picture of it for us. How long was it? I don't know what you mean by a spacer between 1-2 ect. Maybe one of the shims in the planetary gear set? If it was real small it could be a seal ring from on the the servos.
