Hydrashocker, my rear differential got warm during the break in period but no burning hot. I stayed under 2000 rpm for the first 500 miles along with staying under 45mph for the first 200 miles/under 60mph for the next 200 miles/under 70mph for the last 100 miles.
Also, my tires measure 33" (not 32.8" like 285 tires) and my mileage hasn't changed but the power is awesome. I can actually scoot down the highway at 70 mph and it will stay in overdrive when I go up hills.

You should be able to find local shops that will change the gears for $600-700.
The dealer told me $900 for both axles just a few months ago with a 1 year warranty.
That is just for labor.
If the shop you take it to wants to charge a penny over $900 then go to the dealer.

Alldata says its a 10 hour job to do front and rear. Most shops charge $60+ an hour. Although i have a hard time believing it will take 10 hours to do it. Alldata says balljoints should take 6-8 hours, i did all 4 of mine in less than 3. BUT i dont have the knowledge or tools or time to do a ring and pinion, so I have to pay someone else to do it.

Depends on where you live, but I paid about $800 to put gears in my Mustang. $600 for labor and 200-400 in parts for front/rear sounds about right.

The guy that installed my gears said it takes 3-4 hours per axle on the Rams.

the guy im going with is charging me $800 in labor, i supply the parts. I need to find out if he is supplying the gear oil though...

Find out about the gear oil and other consumables before you do it, that could easily add up to $50 or more and then you would probably be better off going to Dodge, paying $900 and getting that 1 year warranty to go with the install.
