The best reason to leave it in

What is the point of leaving it in? Just lazy?
If it is in the hitch, you know exactly where it is. (knee contact helps to remind you too....)

Why take the time to put it in the receiver when you pull a trailer instead of having it in all the time? If it's already in there then you can pull up to the trailer and hook up without having to take the time to put the hitch in.
Ok, so I was just back in the shop and thought I would snag some pics of the beat up pipe and try my skills at posting some pics at the same time.
Here goes nothing.......

Confused here. Are you saying that the ball mount is stuck in the receiver? The receiver is the part of the hitch that bolts to the frame of the truck. The ball mount is the part that slides into the receiver that the ball is attached to. All together receiver, ball mount, ball makes up a hitch. Not tryin to be silly, just get an understandin.
My stock receiver had a rusted ball mount stuck in it. I gave up on it and put on a draw-tite. The new receiver is open on both sides so if one gets stuck I can beat on it from the other side. Also, a bit of luck from it and made sense. When I pulled the old receiver off the bolts were almost rusted through. I surely would have lost the whole hitch and what ever I was pulling if I used it. It might be worth while to pull the receiver off to get the ball mount out and replace the bolts at the same time.

one of the work trucks i got to drive one summer got sold. before they got rid of it they took the hitch out for the first time in likely the life of the truck. tried everything, penatrent, diesel, gas, oil, heat, hooked it to a yard light base made of cement, nothing work ended up grabbing a 170 hp tractor and going drawbar to drawbar and keeping the heat to the receiver. when it went the truck sprang ahead 4 foot and the tractor sprang ahead 3 foot.
