And the frame on a 1500 isn't boxed. 2500 are partially boxed and 3500 are a complete boxed frame if I remember correctly

I own a 1998 ram 3500 2wd CTD QCLB 5spd and I can tell you right now that the 1 ton frame is not fully boxed and what's more the 1999 1/2 ton I am picking up is boxed to the same point. When it comes to moving the 3" wide springs over that is no problem that a grinder and grade 10 bolts can't handle and it's a no brainer to bring the 3" wide hangers of the 1 to

I know it's an old post, but did you ever compare those 2? What were your findings?

Both frames are identical. I compared mine a while ago.

Which I find amazing. All we need are heavier axles and we suddenly have "3/4" ton trucks. I know, wider leafs but that can't make much of a difference considering I added a leaf and have longer springs up front. These 2nd gens are really interesting how similar they are across the brand. Today's trucks could not be more different from 1500 to 3500.

The frames could be capable of 50,000lbs (in theory not a real number). The limiting factory is the axles and suspension. So the 2500/3500s get access that can handle more weight and wider springs. The Dana 80 is capable of 22,000lbs (weight on top of it) but manufacturers downsize the axle itself.
