aluminum drive shafts on the F150
poking around in the wrecking yard last week I came across a couple of DS's that were aluminum... finally found out that they came from the F150... thought this was interesting and wonder why no-one makes a alum DS for the dodge...
Are you sure they didn't come from Ford Lightnings? I know the original Lightning (pre-supercharged) had an aluminum shaft. The new SRT-10 Ram also has an aluminum shaft.
My guess as to why nobody makes one, is that there isn't any demand for them. I don't know of a lot of people that have broken the stocker, even the guys running "bombed" CTDs or heavily modded V10s. It's not the weak link in the driveline. They're also damn expensive! [

If anyone was really interested in one, there are several shops out there that could custom make one.

the idea behind it is better throttle response. less rotational mass to get spinning. plus weight reduction is an added bonus. every pound you can shave off your ride = better throttle response and higher power to weight ratio...
I stand corrected...

makes aluminum shafts... just need to have it spec'ed out and built.

the ones in the wrecking yard couldnt have been aftermarket, there were 3 or 4 of them. I doubt the chevy ones are too, they are most likely coming from the factory like that.
