Thumbs down Awesome I get to pull the motor!

Hey all I was out in the shop messin around on the ole truck and looked under it and noticed a puddle of anitfreeze! On a closer look I think its coming from the freeze plugs behind the block. I replaced the passenger side plugs back in the summer, I had a feeling it wouldnt be long before I had to do all of them down the road. So I figured that I may as well do them all when I pull the motor, and replace all of the gaskets as well. Looks like its going to be a fun job, any one have any thing that will make the process easier? Going to buy a engine hoist 2morrow and will get to work.

Thanks in advance!

I love the fact our center section of the core support unbolts. It makes it so much easier. You just really have to watch the distributor on the way back in.

So I have got to figure this out fast. I took a spark plug all the way in the back on passenger side and noticed the plug was damp and the electrode was a brownish color while the rest of the plugs were white. This leads me to believe that the head gasket is blown on that side? Or could it be plenum gasket? really dont want to start ripping **** apart for no reason what do you guys think? There is a decent size pudddle under the truck and antifreeze is dripping off of the bell housing, this is why I thought it was the freeze plugs in the back. Is there a way to test it with out ripping stuff apart to badly? bad thing is I cant see jack!!!!

the tilt of the engine causes the oil in the leaking plenum to pool up in the rear, which tends to burn it more on the rear cylinders.

you could buy, rent, borrow a cooling system pressure tester. it goes on the radiator cap and you pressurize it with an air hose and monitor pressure. you can probably verify its leaking down, but i don't know if you'll be able to hear or feel it leaking in the rear or not. maybe. i've never used one so i don't know for sure.
