Yup, for just the install alone gears will cost $800-$1000. A good set of gears themselves (parts) plus install kit will sometimes run you about the same. You're looking at $1500-$2000 total, maybe more, depending on the exact gears and gear ratio you go for. Remember, you need two sets of gears since you have a 4x4, one for the front Dana 44 axle and one for the rear Chrysler 9.25 axle.

I lucked out and snagged a 3.92 gear set (used) from a member here on DF (keep an eye on the parts for sale section). As soon as the tax return hits (supposedly next week), I am setting up the install. 4.10s would have worked for me, as I don't tow or haul much at all, but I couldn't beat the price I grabbed the 3.92s at. $150 for both front and rear sets.

WOW! I guess gears won't work out for me. The whole truck isn't worth much more than that. Guess I'm gonna have to live with what I have and just suck it up, fix the tranny and wind her up like a rubber band.
