Default spare tire carrier

when i bought the truck i guess the previous owner had the cable snap for the spare and either didnt realize or didnt care so rather than goin to the junkyard or buying a new carrier i had some tube laying around so i decided to just make a holder in the bed , its not finished yet but figured i show what ive got so far

if it works out good i might build another one for the other side and just run dual spares since i have a crap load of space in the bed

Thats pretty much what we run on chase trucks out of this shop. Usually a heim on one end so it swings up. Simple and it works. Usually integrated into a rack of some kind.

For city use, you might want to incorporate a lock. You'd be surprised how many spare tires get stolen. Mines under my locking bed cover, but it is also mounted to the bed floor and locked.

I'm referring to a truck that drives around and parks in a city versus one that is out in the country (farm truck for example) or like what big red was talking about with the chase truck for the race teams. In the city - you might want to lock up your spare, in the other scenarios - not so much.

I would lock it up no matter where I was. Thieves are not limited to just cities.

Thats a really nice idea. I like it. Kinda like the Jeep trucks from the 50's had.

Older Fords as well as Chevy's I believe had that design in the 50's.
