Default Disconnecting SRS for steering wheel

I have a 1994 Ram that I recently bought. The truck wasn't taken care of and the wiring under the hood looks to be botched to a certain degree. I want to either disable the Airbag so it doesn't randomly blast me in the face or I want to actually square away the wiring.

Anybody with experience and pics (preferred) to assist? I would even just remove the SRS altogether and put a normal steering wheel on it.

The airbag wont randomly smack you in the face...unless you hit something.

Okay, well the truck has been mildly wrecked in the front before and there are two sets of wires that go to the SRS that have broken ends just flapping in the wind.

So, what is the proper way to just disconnect the system so I don't have to mess with it?

Disconnect the battery terminal. Wait two minutes, then disconnect the connector that goes to the airbag module.

PurplDodge,

Thanks. I'll do that tomorrow. I assume you mean disconnecting it under that box in front of my manual shifter. If not then I do not know which connector you're referring to.

whenever i pull a wheel on a car, i usually wait 15-20 min just to be safe, if you pull the connector with some reserve power in the system it will blow the bag. you can also turn the light switch on to make sure it drains everything.

The connector is on the steering column under the kick panel, it's yellow and a pain to unhook.

Yes, the box in front of your shifter.
