Default New (to me) '01 Ram Off-Road

Ladies and Gents:

New to the forum so I thought I'd put up a couple pics and ask some questions...

I suppose the best question I can ask is how to get the pictures onto the thread without making it a link!? I see alot of people just have the pic's pop right up... Do I have to use a site other than FLICKR?

In regaurds to the truck I've done alot of reading about lifting with the factory off-road kit...it sounds like I'm going to lose 1.5-2 inches off of whatever the bolt on kit is and I understand that but I'm wondering how is this lift achieved at the factory level...is it just a coil spacer and an add-a-leaf? If that's the case can't I just get taller springs and another leave and not lose that factory spacing?

On a side note I just listed my 2000 Dakota in the for sale section if anyone is looking or knows someone who is looking for one...

The factory lift on off-road editions, if I understand it correctly, is taller coil springs (no spacers) and taller blocks on the rear springs.

.
Just add [img] at the beginning of your link and [/img] after the link and the pics will appear in your post. Photobucket makes it easy for you because under each picture will be a share button and can copy the link with [img] tags already attached. Never used flickr before, so not sure if you can do that there.

Nice looking truck!

So then if I were to go with lets say the Tuff Country 3" kit...Which contains coil Spring spacers and an add-a-leaf, I would be keeping the stock springs and the stock blocks on the rear axle so that should give me an additional 3" of lift right?

The off road springs aren't taller but stiffer... and if you add a 3 inch spacer kit you will net about 4- 5 inches of lift over a stock standard ram.
I'm hoping this lift comes with longer front control arms, which you'll need to recenter your axle in the wheel well, and don't use the kits "L" shaped track bar mount. It isn't worth a crap. You'll need a 5 inch bracket if you use the stock T-bar and you want the one with the steering box brace. I can't remember if it's a rough country or which. An aftermarket adjustable t-bar is best choice.
Other items wiould be a drop pitman arm and sway bar brackets or longer links. That'll keep you steering geometry flat and decrease bump steer.

By making them stiffer, doesn't that make them physically taller when off the vehicle, if measured from bottom to their highest point?

Nope, they are nearly the same exact height when unloaded, but due to having a slightly stiffer spring rate they do not "sag" as much when loaded, which results in a 1.5" lift (giver or take a few 1/4"s).

And the rear block is the same on all the rams. The off road spring pack has an additional leaf in it.

Its pretty simple. Once you have them uploaded to the internet (with flickr, photobucket, etc.), just simply right click on the pick and copy and paste it in your post... like this

Flickr is a little harder as they copyright the photo... but somehow I got around that when clicking on the large picture.
