The stock y pipe is very congested when it goes into the Y at the cat...like they just CRUNCHED the two tubes together to get it to the diameter of the cat. That is where the big restriction is.

YOu can get an exhaust shop to grind out that part of the Y pipe (or do it yourself) and then just have it welded back to the Cat.

And many people here have longtube headers on 4x4s.

i had the shop that installed my headers make a custum y pipe. been running it over a year. it is close to the t-case but i never had any damage done
