I have a 242 t-case that is in my ram from when I purchased it from someone. They had a shop put a used re-built case in it. The trucks build sheet from the dealer says it came with a 231 t-case. There is no option for dodge ram 1500 trucks or any other ram trucks that offered a 242 transfer case from what I have noticed.

My question is with this 242 t-case in my truck will it cause damage to the trucks other drivetrain parts (trans, axles, drive shafts ect..)? Is it safe to have it in this truck? I have noticed that this t-case is for 98-00 Dodge Durango and Dakotas.

Please let me know what anyone thinks on this matter. I will be calling the shop that installed this in the truck on monday to see what they have to say on it.

 

the 242 is a full time 4wd transfer case.

did you look at the tag on the t-case to verify that it is indeed a 242?

 

Yes the round tag with red writing says 242
