Default Newbie with questions

Hi, I'm not new to Dodge, just this forum, and 2nd gens. Last two trucks were 1st gens with over 700000 miles between them. Anyway I just bought a 2001 Quad Cab short bed, 4x4, auto, 5.2L, 3:55 gears, 100k for miles. I've got a couple of questions.

1. Since I don't know when the last tune-up/servicing was done that's the plan for this weekend. Not trying to start a war, but what would be a good ignition coil to try and eeck some more power/mpg out of this?

2. Mine has the typical dash cracking. Are the aftermarket replacement dashes any better?

TIA

Tom

Coil won't get you any more power/mileage, unless yours has serious issues. If the engine still runs good with the stocker, leave it there.

Couple companies sell replacement dash parts, they ain't exactly cheap, but, they are made from better materials.......

Yeah I would have to also agree about the coil. If its not broke don't fix it.

You won't see any real improvement.

From what I've read on here this is what is most recomended brands of parts for tune ups for good performance and maybe minimal gains.

Air filter - Either 14x3 or stock k&n drop in filter
Spark plugs- Stock champions nothing fancy I guess
Spark plug wires - Hear lots of good things abouth the Belden brand from napa but alot of people on this froum are all over the place on this subject.
Distributor cap - Caps with brass terminals. I was told they conduct electricity better than aluminum ones.
Rotor - any
o2 sensors - Ntk

Oh yeah and make sure you get your plenum fixed. If you dont kow what that is do a search theres alot of thread on here about that stupid gasket

Hope this helps ya a little and good luck with the truck

Thanks for the info! The last time I played with a gas engine it still had points and a condenser. Been playing with diesels for the last 18 yrs.

What is this plenum? Guess I have some more searching to do!
