Default Blinker stops when brakes applied?

Yupp just like the title says When ever I apply my brakes with the blinker on, the blinker stops until I let off the brakes? Only think I have messed with is the trailer lights plug. I cut it off. It was N-rigged on there and I plan on fixed the whole setup back there and out a trailer brake unit while I'm at it. Could that really be part of my issue?

Thanks for the help!

It sounds like a grounding issue.

Grab the 01 service manual from the FAQ section. Wiring diagrams, and ground locations are in there.

The first place I'd check is where the wiring harness is tapped into for the trailer accy. If that all looks good then Id check to see if there is corrosion in the bulb socket on the taillights.

You didn't accidentally short a couple of the wires together (even just one strand would do it) when you cut off your trailer plug did you? Whenever I cut a multi-wire cable like that I cover each of the cut ends individually with either heat shrink tubing or a wire nut to keep them from shorting together or to the frame of the truck. If possible I cut each wire individually and don't span multiple wires with my wire cutters.

Did your problem manifest itself after you messed with the trailer wiring harness?

If so,this ^^^^ is likely to blame. Try separating all of the wires therein, and wrapping them (a good rule is to encompass the exposed part, and at least a half inch down the wire) with e-tape (wirenuts, heatshrink, whathaveyou)

If this problem happened before you touched the trailer harness, your blinker relay is grounding somewhere when the brake is depressed (and the best thing i can tell you is to take a good look at the brake and blinker circuits int the service manual).
