Default After Market V10 Tach

Has anyone placed an aftermarket Tachometer on a V10 Engine?

There is no distributer to get the signal from and the control modules are batch fired (sprack plugs fire once every crank rotation) so a pulse indicator from a plug wire will show the engine spinning twice as fast. The engine is being installed into a 1966 Fargo so the stock cluster from the '94 Ram is of no use.

Thanks,

I can't help you on the tach, but I hope you come back when this project is done with some pics. I'd love to see a Fargo with a V10 in it.

On second thought, have you tried searching for tachs using a Dodge Viper as the vehicle application instead of a Ram? I realize the V10's are not the same between the two, but the tachs may be interchangable if the ignitions systems are similar.

Can't you just hook it up to the tach signal the PCM is already sending to the stock tach?

Just poked around real quick and found this
http://www.speedhut.com/custom_gauge...number-751.htm
A bit pricey but it was the first one I clicked on and it just happened to be for a distributerless system.... Lucky click I guess

I have found a few different tach options out there but none of them match what I'm looking for (I've designed a gauge panel to replace the stock so all the gauges need to be styles, and matching... I can be picky at times). And the ones I do like and would like to put into the truck aren't availible for the V10 PCM. After starting the thread I found this! http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd127.htm
With this I should be able to install any electric tach I want, just have to find the right signal source and see if it is compatible. I have an engine service manual on order so should have a wiring diagram soon.
