Macdog check your TV(throttle valve) cable just to be sure, sometimes they need adjusting!

What do I check it for? Binding on the cable or the butterfly?

I'm with MacDoggisme - what do you do to check for this?

After all of the money I dumped into this thing in the last few months...if it's under $50 I might as well replace it with new.

He is talking about the Throttle valve cable for the trans I do believe. Alters shift points according to throttle position. Pretty much purely mechanical. If it is out of adjustment, your truck can shift too early, making it pretty much a dog.

I think there is a DIY for the adjustment in the FAQ section.

HeyYou, that is good. I didn't think about that. I was in the middle or re-installing my throttle body when the plastic clip retainer from the transmition kickdown cable to the throttle body broke. I replaced it with a stainless clip from a Holley. I did the best I could to match the installation point. Do you think this could be one of the causes of my problem?

Its possible. I think so long as there is NO slack in the cable, so it starts to move just as soon as you crack the throttle open, it should be pretty damn close to 'adjusted'.... if the throttle moves a ways before the cable starts doing anything though..... that will indeed give you premature shifts.

make sure you don't adjust it too far, it will shift hard. I have mine adjusted so it shifs hard but not to hard and i have been fine for over 5000 miles and my trans has 148k on it.

I have a question. How can I rule out transmition trouble. Again, my symptom is: The truck struggles through first gear for the first 10-30 feet after leaving a stop sign. The harder you apply the gas pedal the harder the truck seems to struggle. It feels as though you are pulling a trailer for the first 10-30 feet.

You are barely rolling, and the engine is running some higher revs, so, yeah, that's not too much of a stretch....

How old is your pre-cat O2 sensor? Have you replaced it since doing the plenum?
