front axle swap questions

Pull the cover, and look at the gears. Usually it is etched into a spot on the ring gear.

Might be a tag on one of the cover bolts.

If he still has the truck, might be listed in an info sticker somewhere as well.

say they are different ratios, would my best bet then be to see if he will sell me the rear diff as well and swap that out?

Chances are good his is the same ratio as yours. 3.55 gears were amazingly popular, and very few people went for any optional gear ratio.

Its called a sway bar. And you are correct, they changed mounting points on the axle side. Everything else will bolt right up. In like 99 or 2000 they changed the size of the control arm bolts, but that would be a small hurdle.


Definitely figure out the gear ratio of the axle you are wanting to buy. Do you even know the ratio of your current axles?

Youre catching a break (even if you dont think so) on how cheap your able to pick that axle up if its complete. I just paid 500 for a complete axle and that was the cheapest i found one. And i still had to put my gears in the new axle.
