Default New From Central NY State

Hello, Name here is Albie, and I am from the Utica Rome area of New York. I have a 2001 Ram 1500, 4WD, 5.2 liter std cab short box. It is all stock. I have joined this forum because it is at the stage where repairs are getting more frequent (86K miles) and probably will be looking for advice, where to get parts on line etc. I do all of my own work except for tires.

Now for my first question. I am replacing a front wheel bearing, ball joints brakes and U joint. The dust guard is rotted off. What is the general opinion of the usefulness of this part and if needed where to get? Thanks.

Probably a good idea to replace it. It also makes an attempt at keeping water/mud/etc off the rotor, so your brakes work as they should. Might be able to get one from the dealer..... (for half your soul....) LMC Truck might have 'em. Not sure if the parts store would be able to get 'em. Or, as a last resort.... the JunkYard.

Welcome to DF.

Well, now I feel dumb. I went out and actually removed the wheel bearing and there never was a dust shield. What I saw was the edge of a gasket or thin spacer. It looked like the remains of a dust shield.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply

I go to Vinnie's quite a bit. I live about 2 miles from there. I guess I'll take a ride over there and look around.
