2wd 1500 rearend swap to 2500
so i am looking to swap my whole rear end after this weekend i am tired of mine...i am looking for a 3/4 ton rear with the 4.10s it seems to be the cheaper route other than them being 8 lug is there anything else to look out for. i am sure i can call advance adapters and have some 8 lug to 5 lug adapters... does this make sense that it should work or am i crazy

well i figured while i was doing all this work on my truck i would change the rear end fluid and look at why my truck is now only a 1 wheel wonder.. well i got in there and the clutch packs ( i assume thats what they are) in the lsd are toast and the gears are showing wear. i found a 94 2500 with 4.10 the dude showed me a build sheet for the truck so i figured y not. 550 bucks for the whole gitup drum to drum

Does the new rear have an LSD? If it does.... that really isn't too bad of a price. E-brake cables might have to be swapped as well, but, that is a pretty minor issue.
Keep in mind also, that your rear brakes are going to be MUCH more effective on the 3/4 ton rear end...... adjustable proportioning valve time?

That's where the light duty or original owner specified something different for the use of the truck comes into play., or to put a better mpg sticker on the it from Dodge. I recently dealt with a 99 4x4 that had 3:55's. Turn's out the owner had the choice, mpg related for the main use of the truck.

i looked at the u joints they both seemed similar and the leaf springs plates on the 3/4 ton are wider but i dont think that will matter i dont plan on swapping the whole setup just the rear end itself gonna keep my 1500 springs. should i measure u joint or how should i go about checking to see if they will work

Measure u-joints on both trucks. Diameter of the cap, and Length of the cross. You can probably get a hybrid u-joint with the correct sizes on each of the crosses to put the 1500 shaft, on the 2500 axle. If the shaft is too long though..... that is going to require that you be a bit more creative.
Given that the cost of this is climbing rapidly..... a detroit locker for the 9.25 can be had fairly cheap on the used market.....
