Default POR-15 (Paint Over Rust) and my entire truck?

I've been thinking about this for awhile. I've painted quite a few vehicles in my lifetime with plain old rustoleum (75% rustoleoum/25% thinner) and they usually come out very good. How would POR-15 do if I painted my entire truck with it in Satin Black? I'm talking frame, bed, cab, hood/fenders. I've been running this idea through my head quite awhile since POR-15 looks like it's almost bullet proof, and I am going for the "old school rat rod" murdered out look on the truck, I think it would look pretty good. Black rims, black frame/body, smoked cab clearance lights, smoked headlights/taillights, etc.

Anyone ever painted a Dodge Ram like this? Also, if I just used Rustoleum, how much paint do you think I'd need for this? My experience with painting trucks is with a Ford Ranger, and the rest is all old cars. I painted a General Lee look-alike for a friend who planned on using it for jumping, but that never happened since he said the paint turned out too nice. (I think it was Rustoleum Safety Orange, came out very close to the color of the General Lee once it was thinned out.)

What do you all think?

I actually think these trucks are about the same size a 68-70 dodge charger is.
That was a big honking car!!!

It would be pretty sweet, a normal paint job usually uses 3-4 quarts of paint but i dunno if the por can be thinned out? That idea has come across my mind a few times. I dont know what makes it so strong but it dont chip if its prepped right its awesome stuff.

That would be crazy. Anyways POR-15 will fade if exposed to UV Rays.

I hate Rustoleum in spray cans. Cant get any ****tier than them.

Yup:
MUST I PAINT OVER POR-15 TO MAKE IT LAST?
No, but POR-15 has an ultra-violet sensitivity and must be topcoated if continually exposed to sunlight. Once topcoated, POR-15 will remain effective for many years.

WILL THE SUN DESTROY MY POR-15 COATING IF I DON'T TOPCOAT IT?
If the surface is exposed to the sun for an extended amount of time, the UV rays will eventually break down the POR-15 and cause it to fail. That’s why we recommend you topcoat it.

I think this is the method you are speaking of:

IS IT BETTER TO BRUSH OR SPRAY POR-15?Most people brush it on, but many spray also. Proper equipment and organic vapor particulate respirators for solvents are essential for spraying.

HOW DO I THIN POR-15 IF I WANT TO SPRAY IT?
You should use only POR-15 Solvent for thinning. Keep lacquer thinner handy for clean-up. Do not thin POR-15 more than 5%.

+1. When i used por 15 on my rear bumper it turned a rather ugly yellow. You need to paint a second coat of something on if you use it on your truck

That is the same color I painted The General Lee knockoff. I didn't even use a clear coat. It was a lot of work to get it looking shiny, but it's a lot less work than using normal automotive paint. So, I'll probably do the truck in Rustoleum, and the frame in POR-15. From what I've heard you can do the frame on these trucks with about a quart of POR-15, and it will probably take me about a gallon to paint the actual truck since that's a little under what it took to paint The General Lee knockoff.

Yea, POR 15 is UV sensitive, I did the entire underbody of my truck and it came out great. How ever you can top coat the POR 15 with POR Chassis coat which has a cool satin black finish. Or you can just use POR Chassis coat which is also pretty tough just not the same though.
